SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1

SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 has had a somewhat rough birthing process. Having raised just shy of £50,000 via a Kickstarter campaign, everything seemed rosy. Renders and previews of models came through at a respectable rate. However, delays started to happen, and each expected delivery date slipped further and further. Last year there seemed to be some kind of implosion at Daruma Productions with people leaving the company. At one point it looked as if the game may never see the light of day.

That was until Word Forge Games who had been making some of the models stepped in. They have now grabbed the wheel and are at the helm of the project. Last weekend Word Forge announced the news that quite a few Kickstarter packages had left the warehouse and were on the way to the backers who helped to make the game a reality.

Pushing Forward

We asked Word Forge for their take on the situation with SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 and received the following response.

“The Nightfall team are glad to be finally fulfilling the KS. It has been a long and arduous journey, but last week over 50 parcels were picked and shipped out. These were Wave 1 for the KS and will see people receiving 20 odd dice, a rulebook, 20 miniatures a pin badge and a bag. We still have the massive tome to produce but that is well on the way and the other backers have opted to wait for that. A great turnaround for a project looking like it had died on the vine.”

Through all the twists and turns of this Kickstarter, I can see why some people sway away from crowd-funding. Massive delays, uncertainty of the project ever being completed alongside potential loss of a lot of cash. However, on the other side of the coin are companies like CMON and Mantic. People throw money at them because of their great track record for getting these things finished and shipped.

Hopefully, a few rough starts like this won’t deter folks from Kickstarter projects completely. Although, in this instance kudos really must go to the stars of the show that are Word Forge Games. They stepped in and completed the majority of the Kickstarter and are taking it forward. Fingers crossed that people will see the amount of hard work and dedication that the team has put into bringing SLA to fruition.
