Dreadball Day 3

It’s Day 3 of the Kickstarter Mantic are nearly ¾ of the way there to unlocking the first team captain, Romeo Blue – and then it’s only a short walk to the plastic counter set and the very characterful Eye in the Sky.

There’s a big onus on backers for this project so please, if you tell one person and convince them to back, it’ll make a big difference to the campaign.

Tomorrow Mantic will release a whole bunch of add-ons, introducing a range of items for you to choose from that in turn help the total rise. All are totally optional and the add-ons will include the full range of teams, giants and more. If there’s something specific you’d like to see let us know in the comments.

Meanwhile, on this gloriously sunny Sunday, here are the latest art and sculpts to show you.

The Teams

When theyfirst start conceiving a set of miniatures, they have an artist draw up a range of static concepts. These are not posed but rather designed to show off the appearance of the figure:

These are the latest designs for the Matsudan team, a team Mantic hope to include in the Striker pledge level. What do you think? Would you rather see these guys sooner, or more Yndij? You can tell Mantic via the kickstarter comments page..

Once they’rehappy with the overall design, the artists will draw up some rough sketches of how they should be posed:

This art will then be given to the sculptors, who in 3D create a single, static model. Thanks to science, this model can be duplicated and each one can be individually posed – handy for a team like the robots where the basic striker design is always the same but the player will have multiple poses.

Finally, you can see the latest work on the Yndij below. See how the figure has developed from a static model to a dynamically posed DreadBall player.

There’s still plenty of areas to fix on this sculpt, it’s not final, but you get the idea.

What you will receive will be a team of dynamically posed DreadBall miniatures – and we look forward to sharing the progression of the figures more and more over the course of the coming weeks and months.

Let us know what you think in the comments!

Optional Add-ons

As above, tomorrow Mantic will release additional optional add-ons including DreadBall teams, but there are already two add-ons you get on the page. Here’s a recep:

Gruba-Tek VII Coliseum – Deluxe Gaming Pitch: $30

This deluxe pitch is made of durable neoprene, is crease and tear resistant, and folds/rolls up neatly for easy storage. It is also larger than a standard pitch with 30mm hexagons.

DreadBall Xtreme – The Galaxy’s Most Brutal Sports Game: $75

With a focus on violence and carnage, DreadBall Xtreme is a standalone sports game and takes the simple mechanics of DreadBall and twists them together to create something altogether more unruly.

I have both these add-ons as they were available at retail from the last kickstarter and I can say that DBX is great fun and also the Gruba-Tek Pitch is fantastic.
